Very excitingly I flew to LA with my two daughters at the end of August to watch my novel, Imperfect Women, being filmed. The series is staring Elisabeth Moss, Kerry Washington and Kate Mara (check out my books page for what it’s about) and will be on Apple TV early next year.
Surreal is an over-used word, but I can’t think of a better one to describe going on set and seeing hundreds of people bringing your book to life. The care and attention to detail and all round fabulous-ness of the production and everyone involved really blew me away. As I sat under a bridge in Pasadena watching the same scene being played out so many times, I couldn’t quite believe that something I dreamt up sitting at my kitchen table was being turned into a living, breathing moment. At times I almost felt like an imposter, as if I’d somehow conned my way onto set, but no, it was all legit!
Apart from watching filming my girls and I took full advantage of being in LA. We visited museums, went to Universal Studios, walked around Beverley Hills, hiked near the Hollywood sign, did plenty of vintage shopping and, most importantly, ate so much delicious food. We also took way too many Ubers because there is next to no public transport there and, it’s true what Ashford & Simpson sung, nobody walks in LA.
